The Beaches on Straddie are world NUMBER 1. | |
| |

Main beach 32 kilometres of white sand! |

We travel along the beach for those Bird's Eye views. Watch the Sea Eagles as they hunt for their prey. See the Pied Oyster Catchers having a feast of their favourite food. Also keep a keen eye open for the Humpback Whales.
We will then find a suitable spot for having a DELICIOUS B-B-Q lunch. Whilst the Driver prepares you this lunch, you can go fishing or play beach games or just simply stroll the white sandy Beaches looking for shells or other ornaments.
It is still the same where you ever you go on North Stradbroke Island, the bird life is all around you.
As we travel along we pass some Aboriginal Relic Sites. These usually are comprised of Midden heaps. Middens are great piles of bleached shells left by Aborigines at a favourite camping and feasting site. Shellfish were a major component in the diet of Stradbroke Aborigines which is reflected in the composition of the Middens. Accessible sites can be seen at Polka Point in Dunwich and under the cul-de-sac near the Surf Lifesavers Clubhouse at Point Lookout. The Polka Point midden is one of the largest on the Island. The shells found in bay side middens are a mixture of oysters, whelks, cockles and periwinkles. Many large middens lay along the ocean beach, but they have been destroyed by erosion and tidal conditions. In the ocean beach middens the Eugarie is the predominate shell.
